Playgrounds can be tricky for disabled kids. Imagine the disappointment of thinking you are going to get to go to the park and play with your friends only to realize, once you got there, that it is full of steps, pebbles, narrow walkways, and other barriers that make playing on it impossible for you. We have been there... a lot. However, thanks to some awesome communities and engineers banding together, boundless playgrounds are making their way across the nation! We lived in Alaska for a time, and almost every playground there had been transformed into an inclusive playground. It was so nice for Kaylee to be able to play with her friends instead of sitting on the sidelines with me! Alexander Elementary, a school in a neighboring city, is currently trying to raise money to get their very own boundless playground! Their fundraiser was started by a mother who wanted her daughter, and other children with disabilities, to have the opportunity to play at recess. The community has raised over a 1/3 of the funds they need so far. If Alexander is able to build their playground, it be the only playground of its kind in their city and I want to help them reach their goal!
